  2. But, Why? • Hide the complexity • Rigging helps out animators: • Cleaning the model • Grouping/renaming relating things • Hiding things • Setting up “Look At” • In general, just easier to work with!

  3. Step 1: Basic STuff • Select all geometry and create a new group (select and then CTRL-G) called geo. • Draw yourself a pretty linear EP Curve (Create->EP Curve->□). Hold down ‘x’. Call it master • Select all character setup (joints, Iks, etc) and parent them to the master node MMB+drag

  4. STEP 1: BaSIC STUFF • Add a new Layer (in the Channel Box at the bottom) called “setupLayer” • Add the master node to that (RMB->Add Selected) • Add another layer called “geoLayer” • Add the geo node to that layar

  5. Step 2: Selection Sets • Makes it easier to select multiple things • Create->Sets->Quick Select Set • Creates a set in the hierarchy that you can RMB to select • Can remove things from the set using Window->Relationship Editors->Sets

  6. Custom Attributes • Do this for easier access for lHandManip, rHandManip, lFootManip and rFootManip • Select and then Modify->Add Attribute…call it “twist” • Connect the attributes (Window->General Editors->Connection Editor)

  7. Selection Handles • Useful when it is difficult to manipulate parts of the model (because of geometry) • VERY small

  8. Eye Setup • Idea: both eyes can look at a particular location. • Create->Locator • Constrain->Aim->□

  9. Blinking • Modify->Add Attribute (a new float, min=0, max=2, default 1) • Animate -> Set Driven keys (0 = (0, 360), 2 = (45, 310)

  10. Jiggle Deformer • Paint select the ears (paint select is right below normal select) • Create Deformers->Jiggle Deformer • Edit Deformers->Paint Jiggle Weights Tool • Can animate to see the effects of this(set some keys)

  11. Locking/Hiding Geometry • Window->Hypergraph:Hierarchy • Select Hierarchy from Main Menu • Select Translate, Rotate and Scale in channel box, then RMB->Lock&Hide Selected

  12. High Resolution Model • Mesh->Smooth

  13. Character Sets • Makes it easier to animate • Character->Create Character Set->□
