Centre of Excellence in Knowledge-based Economy at University of Lodz (KNOWBASE) National Network of Excellence in Knowledge-based Economy European Network of Excellence in Knowledge-based Society and Economy (KNOWBASE)
Objectives of the Centre of Excellence KNOWBASEat University of Łódź: • The transfer of knowledge about new ways of organising production, services and logistics from the European Union to Polish industrial companies. • Adapting the KNOWBASE capabilities to the needs of Polish economy resulting from the necessity of considerable increase of competitiveness of Polish industry. • Networking, exchange and twinning with similar centres from the EU in order to integrate the KNOWBASE with European Research Area. • Providing the basis for understanding and addressing issues related to the emergence of knowledge-based economy.
Main emphasis on: • Further reinforcement of the CoE KNOWBASE research potential and of 35 domestic and foreign scientific institutions that sent letters of intent and declared the intention to collaborate with CoE KNOWBASE. • Education in the field of procedures of project preparation, project management, monitoring and evaluation. • Reinforcement of the interdisciplinary character of research.
Research and educational focus of the CoE KNOWBASE: • management, • finance, • entrepreneurship and small business, • human relations, • regional policy, • sociology, • international economic and human relations, • gender problems, etc.

KNOWBASE The national co-operation of CoE KNOWBASE
Objectives of the National NoE in Knowledge-based Economy and Society: • Strengthening existing and building new long-lasting links between institutions, raising our competitiveness and capability to joint implementation of the 6FP objectives. • Breaking through the fragmentation of research and the barriers of co-operation in the socio-economic disciplines. • Building the Network's capabilities (through workshops, postdoctoral studies, conferences and so on), allowing us to achieve success in the 6FP. • Strengthening direct contacts with economic practice, especially SMEs, and policy makers on the local, regional and national levels.
Area of special interest of the National NoE in Knowledge-based Economy and Society: • Creating the communication instruments within the Network. • Starting new types of post-diploma studies and summer schools integrating entrepreneurs, regional and local administration, employees in institutions of business milieu, etc. • Development of interdisciplinary doctoral studies. • Exchange of experience and researchers, doctoral students, etc. between the Network participants and foreign institutions. • Active involvement in the European Research Area, particularly in such topics as: enlargement, science and technology in knowledge-based society, social trends in the knowledge-based society and their implications for quality of life (Priority 7), and of course SMEs.
Sources of our attractiveness: • Modern and well developed material base. • Vast contacts with institutions of the accession countries. • Research experience and familiarity with EU programmes as well as experience in co-operation with both domestic and foreign institutions. • Vast and long lasting contacts with universities from EU countries. • Interdisciplinary character of institutions forming CoE KNOWBASE and National NoE. • Significant experience in law-making and governing the country and the region.
