How is E-Networking different now from “back in the day” social networking… • …Innovation and Technology • Employers have visibility to candidates for FREE! • “If it’s Free…It’s for Me”, bottom line thinking • No need to “contact” someone, recruiters can look without touching • Easily accessible by recruiters and networkers • Search is at your fingertips, no more rolodex or waiting on someone to get back to you with a contact • You can easily update your profile and contact information • Employers can post jobs on LinkedIn • Companies can navigate specific skill sets and groups • Skill set: Bi-lingual, Accountant, Recruiter • Group: SWE, NBMBA • Companies pay to have access to all LinkedIn members
2.How is LinkedIn different than Facebook or MySpace… • …It’s Business • LinkedIn is focused on professionals and business • Information on LinkedIn should be business/education related • Your LinkedIn Profile should be like a detailed resume • Facebook and MySpace encourage non-work related communication • These are sites to upload family photos • These sites are where you can share your thought of the day • Groups • LinkedIn groups are specific to your profession and affinity regarding work and business • MySpace and Facebook groups are usually geared towards social activities. 3.What if I am not comfortable with the on-line world… • …Get comfortable • Explore the internet • You have to adapt to be considered • Explore LinkedIn before you post • You can easily update your LinkedIn profile, practice • Ask for help • Talk with someone who knows how it works • Friends, coworkers • 3. 5.Do I have to include a resume… • …YES, YES, YES, kind of • Actually your profile should be a detailed version of your resume • Copy paste your resume bullets • Be sure to use as many key words as possible • Research jobs you want and use key words from the description • Don’t leave anything out • Recruiters search for groups, skill set and key words • Worse than leaving information out is wrong information or dated information

Search Skill Sets and Key Words… • …the easiest ways for a recruiter to find you • Key words are key • Be sure you are up to date on current words for jobs and descriptions • Entire company = Enterprise • 10 key = data entry • Outside the box = Innovative • Use key words in your bullet descriptions of previous work • Use key words in your tag line • Your success is only as good as your profile • Your profile is a living document

Latest trends in Hiring & Job Elimination… • …can be found via E-Networking • Review jobs that are posted • Look on Monster and CB, look outside your region and state • Is the job you want still out there? • Has the pay changed? • Apply to jobs out of state, work remotely • What jobs are being off-shored/rural shored • It’s no longer just entry level, Project Managers are off-shored • Working remotely is a big cost saver for companies, think about the home office option

Business Recruiting Strategies… • …have changed. • Candidates are “weeded out not weeded in” • Your profile, if not up to date or accurate, can get you eliminated from consideration quickly • Several candidates are competing for fewer jobs • One chance to make a first impression • What jobs have changed, Where did they go • It’s no longer entry level positions that are in foreign countries ,Project Managers are off-shored • Middle management has moved back in from the downsizing trend, back but now those jobs are in other countries.
