  2. What are HFS, NTFS, FAT and ExFAT formats? HFS is Unix based file format system, which forms the core of Apple’s Mac OS X computer. On the other hand NTFS is Windows NT file system to which a Windows drive is read & write. FAT is robust file system that supports both Mac & Windows. However, Mac only reads NTFS drive & doesn’t write onto it. Whereas, Windows doesn’t recognize a drive formatted with HFS, HFS+.

Files & folders from any of these formats can be deleted, formatted or lost due to any cause.
