  2. Algonkian is a group of tribes in Eastern Ontario who speak the same language.They are NOT one specific tribe!! • They move around a lot depending on the season • Warmer seasons  small wigwams • Winter  longhouses • Live in small groups  “village-bands” • They have one Chief or Headsman

  3. Algonkian Diet The algonkians ate mostly: • Fish • Corn • Beans • Squash • Wild rice

  4. Work and Economy The Algonkians main work was: MEN : Hunting Fishing Trapping WOMEN : Gathering clams, scallops, mussels, and crabs Agriculture

  5. Lived in small, family based groups Tribes or bands Around 6000 Groups named after animal totem poles POPULATION

  6. Fun Facts!!!!!! They killed the sick, crippled, or badly wounded because they did not want to be slowed down.
