Moon vs. Earth By : Lauren Mikeska
SIZE • The moon’s size is 3,474 km. • The earth’s size is 6,371 km.
Landforms Valleys,plateaus,mountains,plains And hills.
The moon’s craters The surface of the moon is scarred millions of impact craters. There is no atmosphere on the moon to protect from bombardment from potential inpactors.
Gravity The moons gravity is 1.62m/s2 The earths gravity is 9.78m/s2
Weather and Atmosphere • There is no weather and atmosphere on the moon. • Earth has four seasons these seasonal variations provide diffrent weather.
Water Recent evidence suggest there is water on the moon. 326 million cubic miles (1.332 billion cubic kilometers.)
Weathering and Erosion There is very little because there is little or no erosion on the moon. Weathering and erosion slowly chisel earth’s rock.
Time to rotate on its axis It takes 27.5 days for the moon to rotate on its axis. Length of a day: 24 hours on earth
Time to revolve/ orbit once Around the earth Around the sun (one year) It takes 365 days to orbit the sun. It takes the moon 29 ½ days to orbit the earth.
Effects on other cycles Tides What causes seasons? The seasons are caused by the tilt of earth on its axis. The moons gravitational force are strong enough to disrupt the water on earth.
