  4. Condensed Verbs • What are Condensed Verbs? • Let's try looking at the presente a different way. Don't think of it as three separate lists of endings. • With Condensed Verbs, we use these basic rules: • find the lowest common denominator • make connections whenever possible • rely on prior knowledge. (this one might not apply here since we have no prior knowledge, but it does apply in the other tenses)

  5. Regular present tense -er -ir -ar Make a card 1 2 3 4 X 5

  6. Notice that the infinitive is shadowed. This is to bring it out and show its importance as the name of the action. • Thenosotros form is given directly below the infinitive, since it is formed from it. Again the ending of the infinitive is changing into the green ending • Next is the form for which there is no decicion, the yoform • Then the last three forms are connected. This shows that once you have decided upon the vowel, all three forms share it, and two forms simply add a necessary letter. (These are later called "area codes.")

  7. Quedar (se) -to stay Salir -to leave Saber -to know(info) Tener -to have Traer -to bring Venir -to come Ver -to see Caer -to fall Conozer -to know Decir -to tell(say) Dar -to give Hacer -to do Oir -to hear Poner -to put Make a card

  8. Regular present tense Make a card
