Agenda Selection basics Stroke Overall Size / Pulsation Load Speed Accuracy Comparison Lubrication Causes of Bearing Failure Schneeberger
Selection Basics - Stroke Short Stroke Medium Stroke
Selection Basics - Stroke Long Stroke
Selection Basics – Overall size / Pulsation Pulsation – caused by the entering/exiting of rolling elements form the load zone (preloaded condition)
Selection Basics – Load Capacity AK9/6 (88mm long) - 900N AC9/6 (88mm long) - 7,800N KBN9/8 (99mm long) - 31,200N HW15/97mm (25 Needles) 18,250N or 37,500N BMA35 38,700N MRA35 52,000N
Selection Basics – Speed Anti-friction guideways 0.83m/sec NRT Recirculating Units 0.83m/sec SK/SKD, SR Units 2.0m/sec Roller Monorail 3m/sec Minirail 5m/sec Ball Monorail 5m/sec
Selection Basics – Accelerations Anti-friction guideways 50m/s2 NRT Recirculating Units 50m/s2 SK/SKD, SR Units 50m/s2 Roller Monorail 50m/s2 Ball Monorail 100m/s2 Minirail 300m/s2
Selection Basics – Accuracy R Bearings - ~3 microns @ 1M
Selection Basics – Accuracy Minirail - ~ 5 microns @ 1M
Selection Basics – Accuracy Mr or BM – 3, 5, 10, or 15 microns @ 1M
Selection Basics – Lubrication Lubrication with Oil Subsequent Lubrication Interval – 30 km Lubrication with Grease Subsequent Lubrication Interval – C/P x 100 km Recommended Grease Mobilgrease® XHP 222 and Mobilgrease XHP® 222 Special
Typical damage of Monorail • Main reasons for failure of Monorail-systems: • Lack of lubrication • Improper mounting of rail or carriage • Wear of wiper, damage of wiper • Overload or crash
Typical damage of Monorail • Necessary information for damage inspection. • Which type of application/machine? • Which operating conditions? (lubrication, coolants) • Which was the reason for the customer to disassemble the system? • Comparable damages in the same application/machine? • Location, type of machine, assembling position of monorail
Typical damage of Monorail • Lack of lubrication • More than 50% of failurs are caused by lack of lubrication. • Main reasons for lack of lubrication: failure in the lubrication system of the machine, lubrication washed out by coolant. • Detection of failure because of discoloration of the rail track. Brown or blue discolorations are an indicator for friction (not enough oil film between elements).
Typical damage of Monorail Lack of lubrication, discoloration of the rail track
Typical damage of Monorail • Particles pressed into the running track of the rail, beginning of failure
Typical damage of Monorail Beginning of pitting at running track of the rail
Typical damage of Monorail Next step > broken runway
Typical damage of Monorail Lack of lubrication > corrosion
Typical damage of Monorail Improper alignment of carriage / rail overload
Typical damage of Monorail Improper installation of hole plugs > damage of wipers
Typical damage of Monorail Improper alignment of rail butt joints
Typical damage of Monorail Wear of wipers
Typical damage of Monorail Damaged wipers
Typical damage of Monorail Crash, broken steel body, caused by overload Brinelled runway of rail
Typical damage of Monorail Failure in production (heat treatment crack)
Typical damage of Monorail Failure in production (heat treatment crack)
Typical damage of Monorail Failure in production (plastic molding)
