POLYGRAPH REPORT • The Committee to Review the Scientific Evidence on the Polygraph, National Research Council came out with a report in 2003. • This reportput the polygraph to the test, reviewing and analyzing data about its use. • Key findings from this report are on the blue paper taped up around the room.

  20. 1923 - Frye v. United States Systolic Blood Pressure Deception Test is not admissible.

  21. 1975 - United States v. Oliver Polygraph results are allowed as evidence.

  22. 1980 - United States v. Roberts Polygraph results were left out of a trial. Supreme court said, you can’t do that. Polygraphs are okay.

  23. 1993 - Daubert vs. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals The judge can now decide whether polygraph evidence is admitted in a trial.

  24. 1998 - United States vs. Sheffer Individual state and local courts have the freedom to decide on their own if they want to consider admitting polygraph evidence.

  25. GENERAL CONCLUSIONS 1. The court system has not made any final decisions regarding the admissibility of polygraph evidence.
