Status: Planning – 29 SEPT 2011 Type of Product: Training Audience: Anyone speaking about climate change to the general public…primarily NPS interpretive park rangers. Thematic statement: In order to effectively discuss climate change with skeptics and nay-sayers, you need to understand their perspective and the sources of their information. Measurable Objective(s): At the end of this training, participants will: • Have a better understanding of what information skeptics are using to inform their (inaccurate ) opinions. • Have more confidence when speaking to skeptics about climate change because they have practiced (literally). Interp/Educational Technique(s): Research and role playing Description of product: A two-part training session covering: (1) how/what skeptics think of climate change and (2) role-playing scenarios where a participant “plays” a skeptic and another practices how to respond. WebRangers Climate Change Activities http://www.webrangers.us/activities/climate • Status (1/14/11): Designingand Testing • Product: Series of 3 web-based interactive games • Audience: Children age 6-10 • Thematic Statement: Climate change is affecting the world around us, and we can do something about that. • Measurable Objectives: Thousands of kids will complete the activity and join the new climate community on WebRangers site. • Technique: Interactive games and on-line community • Description: Children explore evidence of climate change in several parks and conclude that the globe is warming; learn about the carbon cycle and human contribution to climate; learn about and have opportunity to commit to take action. • Timeline toComplete: First activity (Investigating Global Connections) is complete and on line.
