Fermilab Fleet Operations (con’t) • 57% Reduction in Petroleum based fuels since 2006 • 54% Increase in E85 Ethanol based fuels since 2006 • 2006 Bio-Diesel usage is all diesel fuels • Slight reduction in diesel fuel usage but also only 80% petroleum • 46% reduction in CNG usage as we reduced the number of CNG vehicles since 2006
Alternative Fuel Milestones at Fermilab 1998 Six (6) CNG Pickups leased from GSA -Very limited range of 15 Miles -No on-site fueling (Warrenville when open) -Point of no return 1975 Gasohol Fuels Vehicles at Fermilab 1998 Three (3) Flex-fuel (E85) vehicles purchased 1994 New Fuel Service Center Built; Two (2) Islands left vacant 1975 1985 1980 1990 2000 1995 1994 Seven (7) Dual-fuel (CNG/GAS) vehicles purchased Bio-Diesel Introduced at Fermilab Discontinued after one (1) year due to cost.
Alternative Fuel Milestones at Fermilab (con’t) Three (3) Electric pickup trucks leased (3-year max. lease) for on-site use. - Chargers bought for $1,800 ea. with a 30 mile range. 2009 25 of the most fuel inefficient vehicles on-site replaced with 10 Hybrids, 12 light-duty vans and 3 light-duty trucks. 100% funded thru American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. 2003 E85 Tanks & Pump designed & installed; Funding from DOE grant 2000 2005 2010 2015 2003 Additional capacity (compressors) to CNG System designed & installed CNG Fueling Station Designed & Installed at Fuel Service Center; Funding in Cooperative Agreement with NICOR Gas.
