  1. 1st Corinthians chapter 15 12 But tell me this—since we preach that Christ rose from the dead, why are some of you saying there will be no resurrection of the dead? 13 For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised either. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless. 15 And we apostles would all be lying about God—for we have said that God raised Christ from the grave. But that can’t be true if there is no resurrection of the dead. 16 And if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins. 18 In that case, all who have died believing in Christ are lost! 19 And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world.

  2. 20 But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died. 21 So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man. 22 Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life. 23 But there is an order to this resurrection: Christ was raised as the first of the harvest; then all who belong to Christ will be raised when he comes back. 24 After that the end will come, when he will turn the Kingdom over to God the Father, having destroyed every ruler and authority and power. 25 For Christ must reign until he humbles all his enemies beneath his feet. 26 And the last enemy to be destroyed is death.

  3. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed. 53 For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies. 54 Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled:    “Death is swallowed up in victory.55 O death, where is your victory?      O grave/death, where is your sting?” 56 For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. 57 But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

  4. How does Jesus’ resurrection shape your living and dying? 1st Corinthians chapter 15 v 12-26, 54-57 Does the resurrection shape your thinking about your death? Do you feel confident, comfortable, facing the reality of death?

  5. 6 As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. 8 And now the prize awaits me - the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.” (2 Timothy 4 v 6-8)

  6. How do we finish the race well? How can we prepare for the end? Memento mori "Remember you will die.“ The Jesus Prayer: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner."

  7. So what difference does the certainty of death make to our living? In what do we invest our time and money? What do we want to be with us, and to take with us, at the End?

  8. What do you want to take with you? • A well-developed relationship with God which makes you keen to meet Him • An trusting, obedient life of no regrets, not wishing you’d followed that calling of God to do something • A life that has stored up treasure in heaven, • investing in making a difference in this world.... rather • than building stuff here on earth that is perishable. • A life that is given to sharing the gospel with others so • that they might join us in eternity.

  9. “We can offer our dread of death to the Author of Life, asking him to help me to number my days rightly. I don't know how many I've got, but I want to use every one of them to get the truth about who Jesus is - and who I am in him - more deeply ingrained [in my soul].” Carolyn Arends
