Workshop A: Art Therapy • Hellos & Supportive Group Dynamics • Spend a bit of time learning about Art Therapy • Move into creative self-expression (make art!) • Process and close time together as a group
What is Art Therapy? Art Therapy is…. • A combination of psychotherapy and art making that helps individuals process challenging thoughts or feelings • An opportunity for: self-reflection, empowerment, to explore meaning making, to grow, learn, heal and most importantly, a way to care for the self • For anyone! You don’t have to know about art or have artistic skill
How can Art Therapy support me? • Art therapy is accessible. We can use any of our 5 senses to experience creative self-expression • Art therapy is a silent voice. It can help address thoughts or feelings we may not be able to say out loud • Art Therapy is about intent. • Art therapy is a break. We let the art do the work
Art Therapy as Self Care • Calming • Relaxing • Helps process • Moving into art making can help us refocus and create distance between our challenging thoughts or feelings I’m worth it!
What do these things have in common? They all…
Let’s A • Choose a card on the table • Take time to decorate the outside of the card • Remember to keep the inside blank! M K E R T
Let’s • If you’re able, move one seat to the left • (You should be in front of someone else's art piece) • Write/draw an encouraging or supportive word, image or statement A M K E R T
Closing Group Reflection • What was it like to make art in community? • What was it like to open up your card? • What will you take away from this workshop?
