  4. Proteins • Made of Amino Acids • Necessary for growth and tissue repair • Food sources: beans, meats, nuts

  5. Carbohydrates • Main source of energy and fiber • Food sources: rice, wheat, corn & potatoes

  6. Fats • Provides some energy • Facilitates absorption of some vitamins • Cushions vital organs • Maintain body temperature

  7. Minerals • Helps the body build red blood cells • Helps the blood carry oxygen from the lungs to each body cell • Food sources: meat (especially liver), egg yolks, dark green vegetables

  8. Vitamins • Needed for growth and health • The body cannot properly manufacture vitamins • Orange juice is full of vitamin C

  9. Water • Carries the other nutrients • Regulates body temperature • Helps eliminate wastes • 60% of an adult’s body weight

  10. Why you eat • Your diet is everything you eat and drink • Hunger is the physical need to eat • Appetite is the desire to eat
