What is the Melkite Church? • Melkites now a days are considered Catholics who follow the Byzantine worship spirituality. Their tradition is in the Middle East. Because of all this the Melkites are not members of the Orthodox Church.
Where/When did the Melkite Rite originate from? The Melkite rite originated from the Middle Eastern by St. Peter before he travelled to the city of Rome. The Melkite Rite was produced in 451A.D. (451 years after Christ was born.) The word “Melkite” came from the Syriac and Arabic word for “King”.
Who are the people of the Melkite Church? The people of the Melkite Church are mostly Arabic(Lebanese, Egyptian, Syrian, Jordan, Iraq and Holy Landers). Their lands are connected by the Middle Eastern. The Head of the Eparchy is Located in NSW. The other Parishes are located in Perth, Adelaide, Canberra and Brisbane.
Facts • The important colours of the MelkiteChurch are Gold, White and Red. • Melkites are the oldest continuous Christian community. • The number of Melkite Catholics is approximately one million. • The Melkite Religion and the Roman Latin Catholic Religion are the same religion. Melkites are considered as Catholic. • There are about 22 catholic churches in federation under the "Pope". • The real name of the Melkite Church is The Melkite Greek Catholic Church.
Language • The church is called the Melkite Greek Catholic Church. The word “Greek” refers to the Greek Language and culture that had been brought to the Middle East by Alexander the Great. The use of Greek in the mass is informal and the parts sung in Greek are chosen by either the priest or the choir. • As well as Greek, formal Arabic is spoken in the Melkite church masses.
