In this sermon, Pastor Nathan Weller emphasizes the importance of living a life of faith and love, inspired by Christ's sacrifice for us. Examining passages from Galatians and 1 John, he explores how our love for Jesus motivates us to serve and follow him. Drawing from the encounters of the disciples with Jesus, Pastor Weller highlights the significance of stepping out of our comfort zones to follow Christ's calling. Ultimately, he reminds us that if we truly love God, our love should lead us to action.

  2. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but • Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. • --Galatians 2.20 NIV

  3. We love because he first loved us. • --1 John 4.19 NIV

  4. Our love for the risen Jesus motivates our desire to • serve him and follow him

  5. 1After this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the • Sea of Tiberias, and he revealed himself in this way. 2 Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons • of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. • 3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but • that night they caught nothing. • --John 21.1-3 ESV

  6. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father • has sent me, even so I am sending you.” • --John 20.21 ESV

  7. It’s easy to keep doing the familiar, it’s hard to follow Christ

  8. 16Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and • Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and • I will make you become fishers of men.” 18 And immediately they • left their nets and followed him. 19 And going on a little farther, • he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were • in their boat mending the nets. 20 And immediately he called • them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him. • --Mark 1.16-20 ESV

  9. 4Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5 Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” • 6 He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and • you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able • to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. 7 That disciple whom • Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” • When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord… (cont’d) • --John 21.4-14 ESV

  10. …he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, • and threw himself into the sea. 8 The other disciples came in the • boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from • the land, but about a hundred yards off. 9 When they got out on • land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you • have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled • the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. (cont’d) • --John 21.4-14 ESV

  11. And although there were so many, the net was not torn. • 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of • the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was • the Lord. 13 Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, • and so with the fish. 14 This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead. • --John 21.4-14 ESV

  12. If you love God, then you should be doing something about it

  13. 1. Do you love God?

  14. 1. Do you love God? • 2. What are you doing for God as a result of that love?

  15. 15When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” • He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to • him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 He said to him a second time, “Simon, • son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you • know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17 He said • to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” • Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; • you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. • --John 21.15-17 ESV

  16. “Nathan son of James (my • dad’s name) do you love • me more than ?”

  17. No matter what we’ve done, we can still serve Christ

  18. And after saying this he said to him, “Follow me.” • --John 21.19

  19. 1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, • I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, • and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not • love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. • --1 Corinthians 13.1-3 ESV
