HHPS – Household Hazardous Product Symbols Hazardous Household Product Symbols are found: • On products that the public can buy in the store • Only in the USA and Canada (Other countries have their own set of symbols)
HHPS: Household Hazardous Product Symbols • These symbols are made up of a picture and a frame: • The picture tells you the type of danger. • The frame tells you • if it is the chemical inside the container that is hazardous • if it is the container that is hazardous. HHPS: Household Hazardous Product Symbols Before October 1, 2001 the old regulations required three different frames (Yield sign, diamond and stop sigh) to indicate the degree of hazard. Now, only two frames are used to distinguish between the contents of the product and the container itself.
WHMIS – Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System WHMIS symbols are found: • On hazardous products that are purchased by companies that are NOT available to the public. • Everywhere in the world!!!
