  5. Envelopes • Very first lesson! • All students receive a letter in the mail.

  6. Letters • Write a ‘friendly letter’ to an adult on campus. • ALL parts of the letter must be correct. www.readwritethink.org

  15. Research Guidelines • Research paper • 1 page report that YOU write telling me about your topic. • Must include works sited. (MLA style – World Book does that for you.  )

  16. Notes printed from class. Also any notes that you get from World Book and Britannica. • Final copy must include works sited. (MLA style)

  17. Presentation Guidelines • Power Point • At least 10 slides • Backgrounds • Animations • Clip Art (ONLY if it is supportive of your topic) • Spelling, grammar and punctuation • Works sited (MLA style)

  18. Plagiarism • The act of presenting someone else's work as your own.

  19. Examples of plagiarism • Not including a works sited page. • Not putting the information into YOUR own words. • Copying and pasting!

  20. Consequences for plagiarism • Students will fail any plagiarized assignment and not be given the opportunity to make it up.

  21. Announcements • Student created • Work on them during class after they have finished all other assignments. 126.14(c)(1)(B)

  22. PSA (Public Service Announcements) • We run these at lunch also like the announcements.

  24. Lets play a game called FACT or FICTION. Read the statement and decide if it is FACT or FICTION.

  27. Fact or Fiction? Marijuana is medicine

  28. Fiction Marijuana is NOT approved as medicine. Have you ever heard of anyone who would ‘smoke’ medicine? Someone who smokes marijuana has the same respiratory problems that cigarette smokers have. There are people that say marijuana is ok if used for pain…they are called drug dealers!

  29. Fact or Fiction? EVERYONE smokes pot.

  30. Fiction The majority of teenagers do not do drugs, and disapprove of friends that drink, smoke or do other types of drugs.

  31. Fact or fiction? Weed is usually the first drug people use.

  32. Fact Marijuana is called a launching off drug. Users start with marijuana but then go on to using harder and more addictive drugs because they think it is safe.

  33. Fact or fiction? Smoke weed once and you are addicted.

  34. Fact No one can predict how you will react to marijuana the first time. Then it may be too late. Some drugs are extremely addictive, and with the first time, the user is addicted.

  35. Don’t let this be YOU! Know the facts about drug abuse. Information is available online, through the school or a trusted adult.
