Why is this Important? ? Teaching is an art form. Great teachers hold our attention, make us laugh and help us to fully understand the subject matter and most of all, they inspire us! Gaining engagement takes practice and experience. Most important to be sure the content is relevant and useful to them.
Pre-Training: General Principles Kick off trainings by: • Asking attendees what they hope to learn. • Giving an overview of what you hope they’ll learn and how it will help. Find out: • What they hope to learn. • What they are finding difficult. *Pre-training Survey Prepare them for learning by: • Letting them know you will be engaging them throughout. • Recapping with them at the end.
During Training: General Principles • Accommodate different learning styles. • Visual learners prefer pictures, videos, and diagrams. • Auditory learners respond to analogies and stories. • Kinesthetic learners best understand through tactile representation of information - Use props - ideas? Create case studies – share an example from another practice or highlight a staff member who did a great job during TMSP Breaking them up into groups to white board ideas and present back. Videos - share any good ones you have with team Create analogies or catchy phrases whenever possible
Engagement Ideas – Beginning of Training Ice-breaker Activity • Thoughtful cards, “something we don’t know about you”, “who is your celebrity crush”, “bucket list vacation destination”- get them to feel at ease. Attendees’ Objectives • Ask them what they hope to learn during training • Whiteboard this or do Post-its • Stick on board or in basket- review
Engagement Ideas – During Training Tell personal stories that are relevant- airlines, shopping, hotels, etc. Create case studies – share an example from another practice or highlight a staff member who did a great job during TMSP Breaking them up into groups to white board ideas and present back. Videos - share any good ones you have with team Create analogies or catchy phrases whenever possible
Engagement Ideas – End of Training • Quiz & Prizes • Create a quiz- can be given before, after, or both depending on objective Attendees’ Objectives At end, have them tell you one new thing they learned and how they plan to implement it.
