  3. PURPOSE To present a progress and 2016/17 Financial Year’s State of Readiness Report on the Kha Ri Gude Campaign

  4. ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE CAMPAIGN

AWARDS RECEIVED BY KRG • National Ubungcweti Award, 2009 • GCIS Award for the communicative teaching materials, 2009 • PANSALB Award for Kha Ri Gude 11 official languages materials, Braille and South African Sign Language, 2010 • Expanded Public Works Programme Kamoso Awards, 2012 • Adult Learner’s Week Outstanding Achievement Award, 2012 • Department of Labour Gauteng YouthEmployment Award, 2014 • UNESCO Confucius Award 2016

OTHER PROJECTS WHICH LEARNERS AND VOLUNTEERS ARE INVOLVED IN Kha Ri Gude enabled learners and educators to form a community that becomes innovative e.g. • Singing team – Limpopo Province • Siyakhulisa Kha Ri Gude BakeryCo-Op-EC • Pottery-North West Province • Beadwork & Jewellery - Limpopo Province

  7. KRG AND OTHER PROGRAMMES ... • Collaboration of Kha Ri Gude graduates in Tombo, Eastern Cape: Formed a co-operative. Developed a Business Plan and DTI provided stoves and pans for baking bread Siyakhulisa Baking Co-op 7

  8. KRG AND OTHER PROGRAMMES • Kha Ri Gude and Skills:Khujwana, Limpopo Province Kha Ri Gude participates in Community Works Programs (CWP) as part of the EPWP: Women and Vegetables Vegetable garden by Kha Ri Gude Learners 8

  10. KRG AND OTHER PROGRAMMES Kha Ri Gude graduates have formed a Musical Group that performs in churches, weddings and functions etc. Collaboration of Kha Ri Gude graduates in Shiluvane (Tzaneen), Limpopo Province 10

ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2015 • 348 228 learners were registered • 298 000 Learner Assessment Portfolios (LAPs) were verified and moderated by SAQA • 17 111 submitted LAPs after SAQA’s moderation and verification • 33 117 learners did not Submit the LAPs or exited the programme • The verification report will be presented to the SAQA Board for approval on 1 December 2016 • 42 462volunteers were appointed including 1 560 volunteers with disabilities

SUMMARY OF THE OVERALL ACHIEVEMENTS • Towards the Main Target of Learners: To date 4 217 373 of the 4.7 million learners have completed the programme • Poverty Alleviation: (2008 - 2015) Kha Ri Gude has also changed the lives of 326 307 Volunteers amounting to 2.683billion Rands by giving them job opportunities

STATE OF READINESS: 2016 • 206 863 (including the Disability Sector) learners Captured and Verified by DHA. • Recycled learners were verified through the old KRG database • A total of 88 137 learners were found to be either deceased, invalid or recycled after the two verification processes. • Measures to enhance the credibility of the database including dealing with Findings of the AGSA were put in place. • Graduates of the Campaign are being advised to enrol in Adult Education classes • KRG learner database was submitted to the Department of Higher Education and Training to use for recruitment into Adult Education classes

  35. SERVICE PROVIDERS • The contract of the Service Provider (SAB&T) for the management and administration of the Campaign has been extended till September 2017 • A new service provider (Bongani Rainmakers) has been appointed for the Picking, Packing, Distribution and Collection of workbooks, stationery and admin documents • Gauteng Department of Education has agreed to provide a warehouse for the LAPs for the department for five years (up to 2019) • The service provider for stationery (Raptoscore Stationery) has been appointed • The workbooks for the learners have been printed by Government Printers Works and delivered to the service provider

  36. COMMENCEMENT OF CLASSES • The KRG classes startedon • 1 November 2016 to 23 March 2017 • Classes for Learners with Disabilities (Blind and Deaf) commenced on 1 November 2016 to 04 May 2017 • SAQA to Moderate and Verify the LAPs in July 2017

  42. RECOMMENDATION The Portfolio Committee considers and discusses the progress and state of readiness report of the Kha Ri Gude Campaign
