  3. Biography • On February 2, 1977, Shakira was born Barranquilla, Colombia. Her parents we Colombian and Lebanese. This inspired her to be an artist that expressed her Spanish heritage. At 8 years old she wrote her first song and at 13, she signed her first contract. She is hugely popular all over the world and is a major hit in the U.S. Her albums have sold almost 9.9 million dollars all over the world. She has received two Grammy Awards, seven Latin Grammy Awards, twelve Billboard Latin Music awards, and has been Golden Globe-nominated.

  4. Country Biography • First settled in around 1510 by the Spaniards. In 1538 it received the name New Grenada. This stayed until 1861. In 1824 it gained its independence from Venezuela. In 1840, civil war broke out across the country. It was to try to de-establish the Roman Catholic Church. It’s also a republican country.
