  2. Intervention The National Picture: • Contextual Value Added is the key • Two levels progress is the target • SIPs will provide a target for two level conversion • Ofsted/LA’s will use two level progress as benchmark • The end of SATs for Single Level Tests • The role of APP

  3. Intervention Key Questions: • Do you know the levels of your pupils? • How do you ascertain curricular needs/ targets? • What do you do about addressing those needs? • Do you have “routine” actions that click into gear when you establish needs?

  4. Intervention Baseline Data “Levels give us a very general idea of a student’s abilities; it is crucial that we establish curricular needs and set targets from the beginning of Year 7. These should be reviewed routinely to assess progress and set new targets.”

  5. Intervention Task 1: Discuss with a partner, the current practice in your department for accumulating baseline data about students • Do you set curricular targets? • How do you set about addressing the needs of the students? • Do you have an assessment calendar? • Are you happy with the current arrangements?

  6. Intervention starts with the pupils Identify pupils Assess learning needs Assess progress against targets Set curricular targets Tailored teaching in main lessons Additional or alternative provision

  9. Intervention 3. Able, gifted and talented Have you got a register? Less didactic teaching Different resources Different tasks Peer assessment/AFL Do you feel there is enough rigour and challenge?

  11. Intervention Task 3 • Look at the Intervention Plan you have been given. • What are its strengths? • How could it be improved? • How could it be monitored?

  12. Intervention Task 4 With a partner, discuss ways in which you might develop your own intervention plan. - Keep a record of your thoughts - Be prepared to share your ideas with the group
