What is solfege? • A method of teaching sight singing using the syllables “ Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, and Ti”.
The purpose of solfege… • To help singers be able to accurately sing pitches when they are sight reading a piece or having difficulty with intervals
Who Was The Inventor of Solfege? • Guido de Arezzo • 992 A.D?-1033A.D? • Italian Monk, who was also the inventor of modern musical notation and the music staff itself.
Moveable “ Do” • “ Do” is the first syllable of every scale followed by “Re”, “ Mi” , “Fa”, and “ Sol” on. ( ha ha! get it?)
Fixed “Do” • In a fixed “ Do” system, C is always “ Do”, D is always “Re” and so on. What would this be if it were sung on a Fixed “ Do” system?
Chromatic Solfege • Ascending~ (Do), Di, (Re), Ri, (Mi), (Fa), Fi, (Sol), Si, (La), Li, (Ti) • Descending~ (Do), (Ti), Te, (La), Le, (Sol), Se, (Fa), (Mi), Me, (Re), Ra
