Keyboards • Keyboards are one of two main input devices, the other being a mouse. • Keyboards are used world wide and most languages have their own keyboard layout, but the original being the 101-key US layout.
Uses • Keyboards are used to communicate words with a computer, and to preform tasks such as: • Writing emails, word documents, online chatting, using keyboard shortcuts and using the internet.
Forms • Keyboards can be used in many forms, such as: • Multimedia keyboards, which contain specialised shortcut buttons • Gaming keyboards, which containg programable keys • Waterproof/flexible keyboards, these are used as easy transport keyboards • Numerical keypads, these are used as external keypads, usually for laptops
MICR • MICR(magnetic ink character recognition) is a way for a computer to detect ink that has been specially magnetized
USES • Banks use MICR at the bottom of cheques so that they can be computer registered
