District 123 Mission • The mission of Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123, as a district striving for excellence, is to ensure that each student learns the skills, acquires the knowledge, and develops the behaviors and attitude necessary to succeed in the future as a caring, responsible, and productive citizen; this mission accomplished through a challenging instructional program that is consistent with the state and local goals is provided by a caring and talented staff within a safe and healthy environment in partnership with the entire community.

SUBSTITUTES • In the event that I am absent and a substitute takes over my class, I expect your absolute best behavior! • You will ask to use the restroom and to get a drink of water. • If your name is written down FOR ANYREASON, you will have an automatic afterschool detention with me. • NO QUESTIONS ASKED… NO EXCUSES ACCEPTED!
WHAT IS SYNERGISTICS ? • This class is a multimedia module-based curriculum that integrates elements of math, technology, science, and language arts. Learning is student directed, hands-on, and cooperative in nature. • Student-directed learning that is built to empower the students to take ownership of their learning. • The Synergistic experience is designed to facilitate cooperative learning. Every module is designed to be completed by two students working together as a team.

WHAT DO I NEED FOR CLASS? • Calculator • Pen or Pencil • Paper • Portfolios will be provided for you.. • You may bring ear buds for yourself instead of using earphones
DRINK OF WATER? • If you thirsty and need a drink, you may go to the water fountain and get your drink while you are at the work stations • Use this privilege responsibly
BATHROOM POLICY • Switch out your lanyard for the hanging white lanyards by the door. • Take the appropriate bathroom pass • YOU DON’T NEED TO ASK ME FOR PERMISSION…. Please just go to the restroom and come back. • Don’t abuse this privilege!
PORTFOLIOS • Are kept in the lab. DO NOT BRING THEM HOME! • They are use for recording your grades. • They are the property of the school and other students will use them. • PLEASE DO NOT DEFACE THEM OR WRITE ALL OVER THEM.
HEADPHONES • Headphones should remain on your head at all times while you are at the workstation. • Please clean the headphones before you use them.
ROLLING ON CHAIRS • REFRAIN FROM ROLLING or SPINNING AROUND ON THE CHAIRS. • IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. • ONE REMINDER • REMOVAL OF THE CHAIR • STUDENT STANDS THE REMAINDER OF THE CLASS
CALL LIGHTS • Use your call light to get the teachers attention (DO NOT SHOUT HER NAME) • Remain in your seat until your teacher is able to come to your workstation. (YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY STUDENT IN HER CLASS) • Continue to work while you are waiting…
VISITING • VISITING other work stations is strictly prohibited. • The only other person you should be talking to is your partner.
BEFORE LOGGING IN: • When you get to your work station, ….ALWAYS… Check your workstation for any missing or broken equipment. • It is your responsibility to report it to your teacher.
LOGGING IN • THREE STEPS • Username is “synergy” and password is “pitsco” for every log in. • Enter your • First name first initial • Last name (if it all fits) • Password
WHAT IS MY Password.? • Your password is a Confidential Code….Keep it Private!! • Your password will be given to your by your teacher.
LOGGING IN • It is important to use lower case letters. • Password “pitsco” is always in lower case. • Spelling is important • Check the spelling of your Name for any errors • Do not put a space after your first name initial • Any variation in entering your name will result in an error message
SAVING YOUR WORK • Go to “File” to get a drop down menu • Click “Save As” to get the save window • Go to the drop down triangle and click “Local Disk (C:)” • Click “Home” folder twice • Click the module name folder twice • Click class “Hour” or your class period folder twice • Type the name of your file in window and click “Save” • DO NOT save work using your initials. • Save your work using you and your partners FIRST AND LAST NAMES
7 SESSIONS • SESSION 1: Module Guide….Not included in your total points for your grade. • SESSIONS 2 – 5: RCAs…Worth 29% of your grade. Take your time and work out the problem. • SESSION 6: Test Review….Play Bloop or Critter Cross • SESSION 7: Post Test….You may prepare a sheet of notes that you can use during your Post Test.

RCAs • They are very challenging!!!!! • If you are able to get 30 out of 30 points on your RCAs, you become eligible for the PERFECT SCORE RAFFLE. • You will get a raffle ticket for which you will fill in your full name and your class number. • 7th and 8th graders only: At the end of the trimester, the winner of the raffle win receive an A+ for this class.
LOGGING OFF • Do not log off until told to do so. • Continue on to the Enrichments if you’re finished with your session before the end of class. • Mrs. Dunican or Mr. Adams will tell you to log off
MORE LOGGING OFF • Click the log off button • Make sure you both give yourselves the 10 pts. for attendance and 10 pts. for participation. • Note – DO NOT press Ctrl-Alt-Delete or the Large RED “X” in the corner of the screen. • This will cause you to loose all of your points and work for the day
FIGURING OUT YOUR GRADE • Attendance and participation = 140 • Post test = 100 • RCAs = 120 • Assessments = 60 • At the end of each rotation, students add all of their actual points together. • Then take your actual total points and Divide it by the total possible points. • 320/420=.76=76%
