Trekking in the mountains The mountains have always had a calling for mankind. A calling to come & see first hand the beauty & grandeur of nature, a calling to cross the highest pass & top the highest peaks, or a calling to explore within. Once in the laps of these mountains though, it is always hard to miss the awing & mystifying effect they have on us. “Footsteps – The Summer Trek” WE, brings to you it’s annual foray in to the Himalayan Wilderness in the form of it’s brand, “Footsteps – The Summer Trek”. A trek set with a Himalayan backdrop, Footsteps gives you an adventurous summer escape. Filled with its share of breathtaking landscapes, snow capped peaks, warm rustic villages, loads of fresh air and even activities such as rock climbing, rappelling etc. “Footsteps” ensures that you get the much needed break from city-life, from the daily hustle and will help you connect with nature and even more with yourself! Destination 2010 – Saurkund, Manali For the year 2010, WE brings to you the grandeur of the ‘Bara Bhangal - Himalayan Range’. A trek to a high altitude lake - Saurkund, located beyond the upper reaches of Manali at 13,000ft. The trek is set to walk you through small villages, thick pine forests, grassy meadows and snowy slopes, all the while presenting a view of snow capped peaks such as Mt. Deo Tibba, Mt. Indrasan, Mt. Norbu, and the entire Kullu-Manali valley. The lake, Saurkund, by the nature of its location is mostly frozen between November and May, and turns to water between June and October. Itinerary Day 1: New Delhi Group assembly at New Delhi and departure for Manali in Deluxe Bus by 1700hrs. Being an overnight journey, Dinner will be provided en-route at a motel. Meals: En-route Dinner. Buffet Style - Vegetarian Only. Accommodation: Overnight Bus Journey Day 2: Hotel In Manali Arrive at your Hotel in Manali for Lunch and check in to allotted rooms. Afternoon at leisure. Assemble for team briefing at 1900hrs, followed by dinner. Meals: En-route Breakfast and morning Tea. Lunch, Dinner and Evening Tea at Hotel. Buffet Style – Vegetarian Only Accommodation: Rooms – Twin / Multiple Sharing
Itinerary Day 3: Base Camp @ Village Sankchar Post an early breakfast, depart for village Sankchar. After spending time in the village enjoying the local hospitality, a short 1 hour hike will reach you to the Base Camp for lunch. Check in to allotted tents. Post lunch indulge in adventure activities set at the camp. Evening Bonfire, followed by Dinner Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Morning and Evening Tea & Snacks. Buffet Style – Vegetarian Only Accommodation: Tents – Twin / Multiple Sharing Day 4: Camp I @ Barghali-Thaatch Post early morning breakfast, trek for 05-06 hrs from Base Camp to Camp I located in a meadow known as ‘Barghali-Thaatch’. Arrive for lunch at camp. Post lunch, indulge in adventure activities set at the camp. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Morning and Evening Tea & Snacks. Buffet Style – Vegetarian Only Accommodation: Tents – Twin / Multiple Sharing
Itinerary Day 5: Camp I @ Barghali-Thaatch Post an early breakfast, participants will trek for 05-06hrs to Lake Saurkund and back to Camp I. Arrive at camp for lunch. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Morning and Evening Tea & Snacks. Buffet Style – Vegetarian Only Accommodation: Tents – Twin / Multiple Sharing Day 6: Base Camp @ Village Sankchar Post an early morning breakfast, trek from Camp I to the Base Camp at village Sankchar. Approximate Trekking Time will be 05hrs. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Morning and Evening Tea & Snacks. Buffet Style – Vegetarian Only Accommodation: Tents – Twin / Multiple Sharing
Itinerary Day 7: Hotel In Manali Post breakfast, check-out from Base Camp and transfer to a hotel in Manali for Lunch. Check in to allotted rooms. Post lunch the participants have time at leisure to explore the local markets Meals: Breakfast at camp, Lunch & Dinner Hotel. Buffet Style – Vegetarian Only Accommodation: Rooms – Twin / Multiple Sharing Day 8: Hotel In Manali Post breakfast, day at leisure for participants to explore Manali. Group assembly at Bus stand by 1800hrs, departure by 1830hrs for Delhi. Meals: Breakfast, En-route Dinner. Buffet Style – Vegetarian Only. Lunch by yourself. Accommodation: Overnight Bus Journey
Itinerary Day 9: Arrive Delhi Arrive in New Delhi, early morning and proceed for train departures. Meals: Morning Tea En-route
Flora and Fauna Amongst the others, some of the species of flora and fauna found in the region of the trek are listed below - “Monal” Pheasant Wild Flowers Himalayan Vulture or Griffon Rhododendron Flowers
Our Preparation for the Summer Trek An Extensive & Detailed background preparation has been put in to make sure that the Summer Camp meets the demands of what it promises, some of our features on the background check are; • Safety – • We recognize risk as an integral part of the learning process & the environment where we travel. This helps us focus on the safety & welfare of all our participants. The use of best equipments as per international standards & the availability of First-Aid at every camp & along with the route guides is our mandate. The route has also been designed keeping in mind the proximity to a Hospital at Manali, a 4-5hrs journey from any camp. • Feasibility & Accessibility of the Route – • Our team of experienced trekkers has conducted reconnaissance surveys at regular intervals to ensure the route is feasible not only for the trekkers but also for the organizers in terms of providing logistical support. To make the event accessible to everyone across the country, the journey for the summer trek is set to start & culminate in New Delhi. • Feasibility of Camping Grounds – • Each camping ground has been checked & verified for it’s ability in sustaining the camps, from having ample space, picturesque views to a continuous water supply. • Panel of Experts – • Our panel of experts comes with an extensive background in mountaineering & allied sports. The certifications from premier institutions like The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, The Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, The National Outdoor Leadership School gives them the required platform & expertise to spread the knowledge & awareness of the activities. • Permissions – • Adequate permissions have been solicited from the District Forest Office.

Doing so will ensure, that in in the event of rain, even though your bag may get wet, your clothes will still remain dry! • # NO SUITCASE! Carry only a duffel bag & a small day pack for the trek. The duffel bag will be sent over ponies between camps, while you will carry the day pack with a bottle of water, a raincoat, an umbrella and some eats in it.
What we provide • Travel by Deluxe coach, Delhi-Manali-Delhi. • All meals as specified in the itinerary. • Accommodation in tents on multiple sharing basis. • Accommodation in hotel on twin / multiple sharing basis. • Basic first aid facilities at every camp & access to the nearest hospital in Manali. • Services of an experienced team with safety as their top priority. • Equipment for the trek; Tents, sleeping mats, sleeping bags, harness, ropes, carabineer etc. • Under the safe guidance of our expert team a hands-on experience in Adventure Sports like; Flying Fox, Rappelling etc. • Apart from the meals mentioned in the itinerary, there would also be a round of morning and evening tea/energy drinks with snacks at each camp. • Porter services and transfer of equipment and luggage by porters / mules.
Pricing & Guidelines • The Price per Participant is INR 10,500/- • Guidelines • We reserve the right to change the route or number of days of the trek if the situation so desires due to unforeseen events. • The package excludes any personal expenses like STD, laundry, or any such expense that may arise due to unforeseen events. • The event is subject to ‘Force Majeure’ conditions. • Requests for cancellation/refund will not be entertained without a written application. • Participants are to duly fill up and send registration form, medical form and indemnity bond to register for the trek. Incomplete forms or any 1 of the 3 forms not sent will result in the registration being cancelled for the participant. • If you cancel 31 days before 01st May 2010, we will refund 100% of the amount • If you cancel 30 -16 days before 01st May 2010, we will retain 50% of the fee and return the balance amount. • If you cancel less than 15 days before 01st May 2010, or after the camp has begun, there will be NO REFUND.
