Štúrovo Štúrovo is a small town in South Slovakia, it lies on the Slovak – Hungarian border line where the rivers Danube and Garam flow.
It is a prehistoric settlement which had a few different names in the course of its history. In the Roman era its name was Anavum, then in the Middle Ages they gave it the name Kakath, the memory of which we cherish in the arms of our town. The Turks occupied Buda, the capital city of that time, in 1541, and thus our town came under the rule of the Turks. They called the town Dzsigerdelen. On 9 October 1683Sobieski, a Polish generaltogether with his army relieved this whole area from under the 142 year reign of the Turks.
