DINGMANS CREEKLET’S VEGETATE THE NEW VERTICAL MEGA-WALL PROJECT SITE IN TWO PHASES
PHASE 1: PLANTING THE VERTICAL WALL SITEPhotos by Dave Derrick July 24, 2008
PLANTING FUNCTIONS • Re-establish a continuous riparian corridor on the right descending bank on the footprint of the vertical wall disturbed area, & the lower meadow. • Plants will reduce soil moisture in wall due to transpiration (soil was soggy during planting) • Holly bushes & dense plantings on top bank will keep park visitors from getting close to the top edge of the wall. BUT during the winter the rabbits had eaten all of the holly bushes!

PHASE 2: SOIL-CHOKE & PLANTING THE UPPER RIPRAP & CONCRETE BASE OF THE VERTICAL MEGA-WALLPhotos by Dave Derrick SEPT. 25, 2008
PROBLEMS • Lack of riparian corridor on right bank at location of Mega-Wall. • Tall wall with no safety barrier to protect park visitors. • Large amount of riprap and concrete at toe of wall provides no habitat and is a heat source to the cold water stream.
