  1. The Brain and Senses

  2. Cerebrum:The Largest part of the brain that in which the process of thinking, learning, and reasoning take place Cerebellum:The Second largest part of the brain. This part coordinates all of your body’s muscles. Medulla:The part of the brain stem that controls involuntary functions of the body, such as heart rate and breathing. Do Not write definitions that have this color text box. Just discuss. Cerebrum Spinal Cord: The spinal cord carries messages between the brain and the rest of the body. Medulla (Part of the Brain Stem) Cerebellum Spinal Cord

  3. Memory • Understanding Language (Left) • Musical Awareness (Right) • Sequencing Skills • Time – day/night, age, day of the week. • Emotion Frontal Lobe • Controls Attention • Emotional Control • Judgment • Problem Solving • Decision Making • Personality Parietal Lobe Occipital Lobe • Tactile Perception (Touch) • Spatial Relationships (finding your way – maps) • Sensation (Hot, cold, dull, sharp) • Optic Nerve • Visual Perception • Reading – Recognition of Printed Words Temporal Lobe

  4. Thalamus: receives information from your senses (not smell) and sends it to the correct part of the brain. sends out all motor signals. Cerebrum Pons: large nerve fiber bundles that connect the two lobes of the cerebellum. The structure's main purpose is to relay messages between the cerebral cortex and the medulla oblongata. Hypothalamus Corpus Callosum Corpus Callosum: Thick bundle of nerves which joins the left and right domes of the cerebrum. Hypothalamus: Controls your heart rate, temperature, waterworks, and sleep. Thalamus Cerebellum Pons Medulla Spinal Cord

  7. Receptors:A special sensory neuron that receives information from the environment. These receptors are found in your five sense organs. – the skin, tongue, nose, eyes, and ear. Taste Buds:Taste receptors on the surface of your tongue bunched together in small round bumps. Optic Nerve:The nerve that goes directly between your eyes and your Occipital Lobe. Auditory Nerve:Impulses travel to the brain through this nerve to be processed in the brain.

  8. Reflex:A simple behavior pattern involving an automatic response to a stimulus. Allows to react quickly to pain or danger.
