Accent modification • DESCRIPTION: Advanced ESL speakers receive guidance and extensive practice in refining oral production and listening skills. Listening focuses on discrimination of sounds in English and on comprehension of connected spoken discourse. Oral production focuses on increasing control of the English sound system. The course emphasis is on overall pronunciation improvement so as to minimize miscommunication or misperception due to foreign accent. • 3 semester units
New Challenges • Unlike many courses where reading and writing are primary methods of communication, a course focusing on oral skills requires auditory and spoken interaction. • In addition to methods used in grammar/editing class, accent modification course needs to incorporate speaking & listening. • Materials • Methods • Motivational teaching and learning strategies
