Walk-in Wardrobe Our team
Have you ever wanted your wardrobe to just magically multiply?
Do you wish you had more jumpers but you don’t want to pay for them?
Walk-in Wardrobe is a communal wardrobe where sharing is prioritised over ownership. How it works? 1. Become a member. Sign up, it’s free! 2. Pick up a jumper! 3. Sign out and loan it for a week. 4. Return it to next week’s Wardrobe or the returns bin. Don’t forget to wash it!
The basic concepts Communication Materials Waste Sustainability
Our main idea A jumper sharing scheme initially at the university where people get to rethink their perception of fashion, consumerism and ownership. Borrow A jumper! B sustainable Tell at least 3 people!
Prototyping Process Started from a grand idea. We needed to narrow it down and rationalise our plan in order to be make it in the weekend. We created mind maps, system maps and posters to aid our prototyping.
Prototype Walk-in Wardrobe shop Resources needed: • Volunteers (shop staff, collection staff, promotions) • Database of volunteers’ and members’ contact details • Website or Facebook page for promotion and easy communication • Central email address and phone number • Room or shop space Equipment needed: • 2 desks • Locked collection bins • Mirrors • Clothes rails, hangers • Storage for jumpers
Mini-survey We went out to the Union to ask a few people what they thought of the idea of the Walk-in Wardrobe…
Stats 71% of people said they get bored with the jumpers they wear week-by-week. Only 43% of people said that they do share clothes with friends. Though 77% were interested in using Walk-in Wardrobe.
Becoming real… • Things to do next: • Setting up a society in the University Union (support services can be useful initially) • speaking with a fancy dress shop about dealing with clothes rental related issues (wear and tear, people not bringing clothes back, etc.) • speaking with the union charity shop about hosting the initial Walk-in Wardrobe events • speaking with the Leeds University Union Fashion Society about a potential partnership, as they host similar events (DIY clothes workshops and clothes swap) • We would turn to the NUS green fund for some money to buy jumpers
