  2. Layers • There are four layers in the rainforest. -forest floor -understory -canopy -emergent

  3. Forest floor • Very little sun reaches the forest floor • Humid • Fallen leaves and dead animals decay(rot) and give nutrients to the soil

  9. The Understory • This layer is hot, damp, and still • A lot of shrubs and young trees

  10. Animals in the Canopy Fruit Bat

  14. The Canopy • The trees in this layer can be as high as 100 feet!! • They layer looks like a green roof for the forest • This layer protects the floor from sun and rain

  19. Emergent Layer • Only a few trees break through to this layer. • They can be as tall as skyscapers! • They have long thin trunks.
