  2. Session Objectives Explain the stakeholders in and the significance of activation rate Demonstrate ways to encourage engagement Guide participants to developing plans to improve activation Enable lodges to implement these plans and access supporting resources

Significance of Arrowman Activation First Five 15% of Arrowmen will become “activated” or attend their first event within five months of induction Timely Twelve 9% more will be activated by the end of their first year Essential Eighteen In the final months of the activation window, 10% will be activated; few Arrowmen will be activated more than 18 months after induction, leaving 65% of Arrowmen never activated

  4. Identify Stakeholders Lodge Members • Newly inducted or non-activated members • Engaged members Home Units • Parents • Troop, Crew, or Ship leadership Lodge/Scouting • Lodge leadership • Council leadership

Core Elements of Activation Educate Share the significance and impact of the Brotherhood of Cheerful Service with parents and unit leadership Understand Expand the view of newly inducted members and parents Engage Bring the OA program into the Scouting experience of members and into their units

  6. Educate Pre-Induction • Candidate and Parent letters • Availability of Resources • Alumni Testimony On-Site • New Parent Meetings • New Member Orientation Follow-Up • Jumpstart • Constant Communications

Understand Journey to Brotherhood Crystallizes the purpose of the OA by providing opportunities to apply what has been learned Brotherhood Hike and Ceremony Sharing stories, insight, and experiences for one great learning opportunity, followed by an interactive conclusion to the induction process Communicating our Purpose Developing and sharing resources for unit leaders, families, and Arrowmen Engage more senior Arrowmen to share experiences

  8. Engage First Lodge Event Combined with a strong program, this will certainly activate and engage Arrowmen Chapter Involvement Direct link between Lodge and Unit Non-OA Events with OA Presence Unit, District, and Council events can promote OA’s presence and impact

  9. Identifying Activation Strategies Plan for Activation Awareness of the activation window, focus on new members Incentivized Return Discounts, patches, memorabilia, etc. Lodge Leadership Engage Arrowmen in Lodge and Chapter leadership

Conclusion__ Best Practices When discussing, remember to: • Define terms to prevent confusion • Identify a clear end goal and crystallize the discussion • Understand differences of perspective between Arrowmen and different lodges • Premortem: imagine the plan fails, then ask yourself “what went wrong?” • Ask what the next step is
