What is LTE? In 2004, 3GPP initiated project Long Term Evolution (LTE) to enhance the Universal Terrestrial Radio Access (UTRA) Targets: 3-4 times average throughput of Release 6 HSDPA levels in the Downlink (100Mbps), and 2-3 times HSUPA levels in the Uplink (50Mbps). Rel 8 of 3GPP (in 2008)– "E UTRA" – 1st Tech Std (36 series) of LTE All present LTE deployments adhere to Rel 8 standard Rel 10 of 3GPP now specifies LTE Advanced Ref: http://www.3gpp.org/LTE
