  2. Why do you need a plan to solve problem? • Because organizing and making a plan makes every easier!!! • The are 4 basic steps to the problem solving plan.

  3. Step One Explore Read the problem quickly to gain a general understanding of it. ASK: “What do I know?”, “What do I need to know?” “Is there enough info for my to solve”, “Is there TMI (too much info)

  4. Step Two Plan Re read the problem to id important facts. Determine how the facts relate to each other. Make a plan to solve. Estimate the answer.

  5. Step Three Solve Use your plan to solve the problem. If your plan does not work, revise it or make a new plan

  6. Step Four… the last!! Examine Reread the problem. ASK “Is my answer reasonable?” “Does it make sense?” If not, solve the problem another way.

  7. Words that will make you sound smarter Conjecture Inductive reasoning An educated guess….like a math way of saying Hypothesis. Is when you make an educated guess (conjecture), based off patterns or pasted events.

  8. Let’s put it to work…. 3, 6, 9, 12,…..? Do you guys think you need something harder? http://www.kidport.com/grade7/tal/Patterns.htm • Use your inductive reasoning to figure out the next number.

  9. Practice makes Perfect!! • Text books ……….Do your work in your MATH notebook Page 9 #3, #4-7 #8-21 I will be random answers and work on your white boards!!
