  1. The French and Indian War War Between France and Britain Main Idea: Great Britain and France fought for control of eastern North America. Ohio River Valley: *Native Americans *French (trade) Traded furs, guns, etc… English (settlers) wanted to trade, too! French built forts to keep them out

  2. The French and Indian War War Between France and Britain George Washington: led British soldiers into the O.R.V. in 1754 (they lost)  started the WAR Ally: a person or group that joins with another to work toward a goal French and Indians = allies English and Indians = some allies (Mohawks)

The French and Indian War War Between France and Britain congress (small “c”): a group of representatives who meet to discuss a subject Albany congress: colonies met to figure out how to fight France Benjamin Franklin’s Albany Plan: unite the colonies  keep own government but overall govt. to help with big problems (like war) People said, “NO.”

  4. The French and Indian War Victory for Britain! Main Idea: Britain gained new land in the French and Indian War, but it also had new problems. Battle of Quebec: British defeated this center of French power 1763: France ready to make peace with Britain

Rebellion: fight against the government Proclamation: an official public statement Pontiac’s Rebellion: Ottawa Chief Pontiac fought against the British – wanted them to leave Proclamation of 1763: Britain said colonists could not settle west of the Appalachian Mountains (stop the fighting and recognized Indians’ land rights)

  6. The French and Indian War Victory for Britain! • Proclamation of 1763: upset colonists. Why? • French were gone and British wanted to settle and farm the Ohio River Valley • Tired of British soldiers living among them – didn’t want them for protection anymore

  7. The French and Indian War • Colonists were willing to speak out! (Great Awakening – 20 yrs. before – colonists challenged some of their leaders – NOW they started working together to oppose the decisions of their government – IT WAS GROWING!)
