Overview Syllabus WELCOME TO English 10! English 10: Get ready to sharpen your critical thinking skills; get ready to compose strong, persuasive writing and speeches; get ready to crush the opposition in debate, and create concept-rich artwork and films. Each unit, a piece of your work will go out to a larger audience. I have designed the course to be a rich, engaging, and thought-provoking experience to help you become a better reader, writer, listener, speaker, critical thinker, and member of society. My philosophy as a teacher is to equip you with transferrable skills that will actually help you in real life. Ten years from now, it will not matter if you can remember every character from Fahrenheit 451. Grades Expectations I understand and support all classroom procedures and requirements. My student may participate in classroom debates, pictures, film-writing, production, and acting. I will also use Remind, a texting reminder service. To receive texts, please send a text to 81010 with the message: @inference Grading is weighted: mastery assessment is weighted as 70% and practice is 30% of your grade. LATE WORK: Late work will be accepted for half credit until the end of the unit. Tests can be retaken any time until the end of the grading period for up to a C grade Share the love! Overview Syllabus English 10: Get ready to sharpen your critical thinking skills; get ready to compose strong, persuasive writing and speeches; get ready to crush the opposition in debate, and create Student Reporting Labs provide students with a unique video journalism curriculum, mentorship, and relationships with local public media stations to produce original stories that explore how critical national issues impact communities around the country. The ability to create video-based projects will allow students to enter the world of visual media which is so prevalent in society today. This creativity will hopefully spark an interest in video journalism, public service, school initiatives, community activities, and much more.
