Consonance. Definition- the repetition of similar consonant sounds at the ends of accented syllables. Example- The repeated t and ch sounds in “ the spurt of a lighted match” . Foil. Definition- a character who provides a contrast to another character.

  1. Consonance Definition- the repetition of similar consonant sounds at the ends of accented syllables. Example- The repeated t and ch sounds in “ the spurt of a lighted match”

  2. Foil • Definition- a character who provides a contrast to another character. • Example- In Julius Caesar, the jealousy of Cassius serves as a foil to good intentions of Brutus.

  3. Narrative Poem • Definition- a poem that tells a story. • Example- La Belle Dame sans Merci

  4. Science Fiction • Definition- Writing that tells about imaginary events that involve science or technology. • Example- Enders game By Orson Scott Card

  5. Verbal Irony • Definition - a figure of speech in which what is said is the opposite of what is meant. • Example – The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Antony calls Brutus “ an honorable man” when, in fact, he wants people to think just the opposite.
