  1. Enterprise Data Management: Stakeholder Town HallSandi Bramblett and Lori SundalSeptember 19, 2013

  2. Two Deliverables: Data and Decisions • “One Georgia Tech” needs: • An integrated approach to how we transact, interact with, and consume data and information. Currently we have too many silos in how we process, maintain, and consume data due to the many systems and processes. • Tools that currently do not exist such as: what-if scenario planning, state fund project reports, more robust budgeting tools, position management, and flexible asset tracking and management. • More robust reporting capabilities such as dynamic dashboards, user friendly self-service reporting capabilities, and agile reporting of complex questions.

  3. Two Deliverables: Data and Decisions

  4. Enterprise Data Management (EDM) • A cohesive, concise and coherent strategy for delivering integrated solutions for data quality, metadata management, data warehousing, business intelligence and data governance • Necessary stewardship of an asset • Delivery of the right data at the right time to the right people using the most effective and efficient means • Required for becoming a data-informed, decision-ready institution

  5. Developing the EDM Roadmap • The outcome of this discovery project is to develop a plan which will bolster Georgia Tech’s ability to use data resources to report information, measure progress towards strategic goals, and make data-informed decisions at all levels. • This is a large scope, Institute-wide project which will enable Georgia Tech to shift its operational focus from transaction-centric to information-centric. The end result of this project will be an implementation of best practice solutions and methodologies of these data management disciplines: data governance, data • warehousing, and business intelligence.

  6. Developing the EDM Roadmap • Previous Higher Education Experience:

Or…what the heck is Hadoop?” • “It’s harder than it should be to understand performance across all of our units” • “I can’t get a complete picture of our students” • “It is very difficult to investigate root causes of problems.” “We import data from several systems into Excel to analyze it and build reports…We email the workbooks out every month.” • “How many faculty do we have?”
