Holy, Loving Father What Jesus taught about God’s Character and what that means for us.
God’s Character • What lens do we see God through? • Jesus taught us to see God through His Character and actions. • Hebrews 10:14 – For by one offering He forever made perfect those who are being made holy. • When we understand God’s Character we understand the Kingdom of God, and how we are to live it here on earth.
Jesus taught God is inflexibly Holy • Matthew 25:31-45 – The Parable of The Sheep and The Goats • Jesus taught that with God there is no gray area. There is right and there is wrong. • Jesus taught that God will never go against His word. (Jesus is the Judge, everyone will be judged, not everyone gets into heaven) • The Difference between the Sheep and the Goats – Understanding God’s Character and living it here on Earth.
We are being made Holy • Hebrews 10:14 – For by one offering He forever made perfect those who are being made holy. • The Cross is the beginning of The Kingdom (Made Perfect) • Our daily decisions and actions are what advance the Kingdom (Being made Holy)
Jesus taught God is relationally loving • Luke 15:15-32 – The Prodigal Son • The Parable of the Prodigal is a story that illustrates Restoration, Unconditional Love, and Forgiveness. • Jesus used this story to show why He came to the earth. • Both the young son, and the old son had problems in understanding the father’s character. • They were both concerned with themselves. The Father cared about them.
What does this mean for us? • Jesus teaches us to be perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect. – Matthew 5:43-48 • We are called to Love everyone. • We deal with conflict differently – Matthew 18:15-17 • We have a new relationship with God as our Father. • We bring others into our community.
