  1. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

  2. What are distribution companies? • “A distribution company is a company responsible for the marketing of a film. The distributor may set the release date of a film and the method by which a film is to be exhibited or made available for viewing: for example, directly to the public either theatrically or for home viewing (DVD, video-on-demand, download, television programs through broadcast syndication etc.)” • “A distributor may do this directly, if the distributor owns the theatres or film distribution networks, or through theatrical exhibitors and other sub-distributors. A limited distributor may deal only with particular products, such as DVDs or Blu-ray, or may act in a particular country or market.”

  3. Distribution CompaniesBritish Independent Vs.Hollywood Blockbuster

  4. British Distribution Companies • BBC Films is the feature film-making arm of the BBC. It is firmly established at the forefront of British independent film-making and co-produces approximately eight films a year. Working in partnership with major international and UK distributors, BBC Films aims to make strong British films with range and ambition. “We are committed to finding and developing new talent, as well as collaborating with some of the foremost writers and directors in the industry.” The British distribution company- BBC films has produces many successful thrillers for their niche audiences such as:- The Farm, Bullet Boy, Dom Hemingway, Eastern Promises and many more. Although BBC Films have made a few successful thriller films. I do not however feel as though they have made a film such as this before and this is the reason I do not think Savanna Grave would be as successful if they were distributed by BBC films.

  5. British Distribution Companies • Arrow Films is an all rights multi-platform distributor of feature films and TV series. We specialise in releasing some of the best content from around the world to UK customers and beyond. Since 1991, through Arrow’s diverse and rich product mix, one of the most energetic and cutting edge labels in British distribution has been forged. Recent accolades include being named Label of the Year by prestigious publications as the Guardian and Home Cinema Choice and over the years having multiple finalists in Sight and Sound’s best DVDs of the year as well as winning the British Video Association’s Marketing Initiative of the Year. Arrow’s global reputation as one of the finest labels in the world has come about through consistent high quality product and a focus on fan-based products always at its core. This includes a major investment on restoring original material through modern techniques as well as pioneering packaging solutions and newly commissioned artwork for each release. • Arrow films specialise in Thriller films and have produced many successful thrillers such as Deep Red, Demons, Pieces, Inferno and many more. Comparing it to British distributors of today, it could make Savanna Grace very successful. This is because it also works with Hollywood films and so knows how to market films in the same way Se7en was distributed. Bring very similar to Se7en, our film could make it big with Imagine-X and furthermore they are familiar with Thriller films

  6. Hollywood Distribution Companies • Universal Studios Inc. (also known as Universal Pictures), is an American motion picture studio, owned by Comcast through its wholly owned subsidiary NBC Universal, and is one of the six major movie studios. Its production studios are at 100 Universal City Plaza Drive in Universal City, California. Distribution and other corporate offices are in New York City. Universal Studios is a member of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). • The reason that I feel Savanna Grace would be successful if It was distributed by Universal Studios as our film theme/style has been compared to that of ‘Dead Silence’ which was distributed by Universal Studios. The drawback of being distributed by such a world renown distribution company is that due to Savanna Grace being an unknown, British independent film, it would be difficult for them to reach out to such a broad audience due to this. There are also no star acting in our thriller which would also effect the success of the distribution of Savanna Grace.

  7. Hollywood Distribution Companies • Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc. (CPII) is an American film production and distribution studio, that is part of the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, a subsidiary of Sony Entertainment, a subsidiary of the Japanese conglomerate Sony. It is one of the leading film studios in the world, a member of the so-called Big Six. It was one of the so-called Little Three among the eight major film studios of Hollywood's Golden Age. • The studio, founded in 1918 as Cohn-Brandt-Cohn Film Sales by brothers Jack and Harry Cohn and Joe Brandt, released its first feature film in August 1922. It adopted the Columbia Pictures name in 1924 and went public two years later. The name is derived from "Columbia", a national personification of the United States, which is used as the company's logo. • Columbia Pictures are a successful mass distribution company who are known for all their films especially their thriller films for example Spider Man, The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo, 30 Days of Night. Savanna Grace would have been successful if it was targeting a mass audience and had known co-stars in it. I feel as though it would be harder for Savanna Grace to be successful due to it’s lack of reputation and therefore I do not think this distribution would distribute our media product

  8. Which media institutions might distribute Savannah Grace? • To conclude I feel, although Savanna Grace has been compared to the horror thriller- Dead Silence which well distributed by Universal Studios, I feel as though such a large Hollywood blockbuster distribution company would be unable to and not be willing to distribute a film such as Savanna Grace due to it’s audience type being niche whilst Universal Studio’s is known internationally and star well respected, famous actors in it. • I feel my film would be funded by BBC films due to it being a low budget British film. The target audience is also niche and BBC films distribution company only distribute to a niche audience.

  9. Marketing and distribution of Savvanah Grace Savanna Grace • Being released at such an odd time of the year, our film would be the only one to watch at the time which would grab all of our target audience. • We agreed that because there would be school holidays around this time it would directly target teenagers • Following this, the release online would be our next move as it would be something that a group of friends would rent out and watch on their games console or smart TV for the night. • Released on 04/05/15 in accordance with the ever occurring number 4 in our film.
