Design Style – Contemporary Kitchens At Papilio, we believe that a strong client relationship is essential for a transformational design experience. It is this relationship that enables us to deliver outstanding handmade kitchens. The style of your new bespoke kitchen will depend predominantly on your preference and taste. The good news is that if you're dreaming of contemporary kitchens, we have over twenty years of experience and know-how to apply to creating beautiful modern kitchens. Our clients in and around Bristol and beyond are testimony that our vision and expert craftsmanship will not disappoint. Our contemporary kitchens incorporate innovation, exceptional craftsmanship and a unique identity entirely tailored to you. But what exactly makes a kitchen contemporary? Is it technology, aesthetics, or modern trends in materials? Here's What We Know Contemporary kitchen design is often characterised by its clean lines, simple forms, and use of natural materials. This style is all about creating a functional and stylish space without the fuss of over-styling.
If you're thinking about a brand new bespoke kitchen or just looking for some inspiration, here are a few tips for envisaging a contemporary kitchen design. Contemporary Kitchen Layout Your kitchen layout is essential to its functionality, so it's important to get it right from the start. An experienced kitchen designer like us will consider your needs and how you will use your kitchen first. They should then create a layout that drives flow and function. A modern arrangement allows materials to shine without fussy obstructions, making life, work, and play in the kitchen a breeze. Contemporary Kitchen Materials Natural materials like wood, stone, and marble are often utilised in contemporary kitchen design. These materials add a touch of warmth and sophistication to the space and can also help create a sense of luxury. But highly durable, practical and innovatively engineered materials can also add a contemporary feel and function to a modern kitchen. We designed a contemporary kitchen in our Richlite Kitchen project near Bristol in a large country manor house. Central to the design was a sensational kitchen island. The feature piece of furniture was created from a hand-cut, single section of oak, with high contrast grain, exposed finger joint detail and hand-cut brass ties to further celebrate this natural façade. The work surface, in contrast, was made from a single sheet of Richlite, a sustainable paper composite material made from partially recycled paper and phenolic resin. Incredibly hardwearing, versatile and modern, the black Richlite work top performs beautifully in contrast to the textured oak to create an attractive contemporary kitchen island. Contemporary Kitchen Aesthetic The look of any kitchen will be down to the homeowner's individual taste, but with clean lines and structure, a modern kitchen design should focus on simplicity. Contemporary kitchens are less busy and embellished, favouring clean lines and simple forms and letting materials sing with a streamlined look. While contemporary kitchen design is often characterised by its use of neutral colours, we love adding pops of vibrant shades to our kitchen designs. We achieved just that in our Fulham Kitchen in London. We designed functional yet warm, calming cabinetry featuring uncluttered, simple lines with hand-laid oak veneers. The welcome contrast came with the vibrance of the central cabinets, which we finished in Rebecca's Red by Francesca's Paints. The colour popped amid dark grey tones and light golden oak in the light and contemporary space. Contemporary Kitchen Technology A genuinely modern handmade kitchen will incorporate the latest technology and appliances. We like to choose sleek appliances, sometimes in stainless steel for a classic feel and sometimes in black to not overshadow the overall aesthetic of the kitchen design. In our Frome Kitchen project near Bristol, we designed an ultra-modern kitchen with a mid-century- inspired aesthetic. The kitchen features red tinted wood, Valcromat materials, brass finishes and reeded
glass. While the design for the kitchen was inspired by Scandinavian design, our brief was to create a kitchen befitting the best chefs, so it needed to feature the latest technology. We sunk a Bora Pro induction hob with built-in extraction into the worktop of the spectacular kitchen island. We installed a feature Zip tap for the drinks area for boiling, sparkling and chilled water. Within the wall of warm red cabinets, we integrated a Miele fridge, pantry cabinet and two obsidian black Miele ovens with plenty of storage opposite the Bora Pro Hob. You can achieve a modern kitchen by considering layout, aesthetics, materials and appliances. The beauty of a contemporary kitchen is that the timeless style will never go out of fashion, so you can be sure that your kitchen will look great for years to come.
