Carnot cycle The Carnot cycle when acting as a heat engine consists of the following steps: reversible isothermal expansion of the gas at the "hot" temperature, isentropic (reversible adiabatic) expansion of the gas, reversible isothermal compression of the gas at the "cold" temperature, isentropic compression of the gas.
Construction The main parts of a heat pump are: • a condenser; • an expansion valve; • an evaporator; • a compressor.

Test results The usage of electrical energy……….11,8 kW The output of thermal energy………..52.7kW COP=52.7/11.8=4.5 Coefficient of performance (COP) (amountofheatmovedperunitofinputworkrequired) is equal to 4.5, i.e. for every kW of electric energy transmitted into the compressor of the heat pump, 4.5 kW of thermal energy is received.
