Choose a Topic • You can research and report on any topic or hobby which interests you. Your topic can be on something you have always done or wanted to learn more about. Just be sure that you can interview someone who has a connection to your hobby.
Hobby Fair: 7 Parts • 1. Research Paper: • At least a 5 paragraph paper on the HISTORY of your hobby • Need to include at least 3 sources • Need a bibliography (works cited) list of sources
Hobby Project • 2. Biographical Sketch • At least a 5 paragraph paper on a FAMOUS PERSON connected with your hobby • Need at least 2- 3 sources • Need a bibliography of sources
Hobby Project • 3. STEPS or Process Paper • A “how-to” paper explaining a process associated with your hobby • Paragraph and bullet format • Can be a PowerPoint presentation • Needs pictures or graphics
Hobby Project • 4. Interview: • Interview a person who is somehow connected with your hobby – they have expert knowledge of your hobby, they coach or teach your hobby, they have experience or work doing your hobby. • Can be in paragraph or Q/A (question and answer) format
Hobby Fair • 5. Business Letter • You will write a letter of introduction to the person you wish to interview, explaining your assignment and requesting an interview.
Hobby Fair • 6. Oral Presentation • You will present your hobby and presentation board to the class. • You will teach us about the history of your hobby, a famous person, a “how-to” demonstration (steps) and the interview.
Hobby Fair • 7. The Hobby Fair • All 8th grade English classes will present their hobby and presentation boards in the MPR for 6th and 7th grade classes. • This is your chance to perform or present or teach others about your hobby.
Hobby Fair • This is a lot of work, but also a lot of FUN. • Stay organized, do not procrastinate, and ask for help when you need it.
