  1. Insert own institute emblem Helios Solaris DLR Institute of Technical Thermodynamics, Stuttgart The Sun's Energyand Sunshape The sun, our singular source of renewable energy, sits at the center of the solar system and emits energy as electromagnetic radiation at an extremely large and relatively constant rate, 24 hours per day, 365 days of the year. Considering the energy coming from the direction of the sun, two factors must be considered when using highly concentrating collectors • there is an intensity variation across the disc of the sun (limb darkening) • the apparent radiation coming from just a few degrees away from the sun’s disc (circumsolar radiation) may have a significant energy content. Figure Radiance distribution of a "standard" solar scan showing both solar disc and circumsolar radiation (Bendt and Rabl, SERI Report, 1980). Notes for the design of your poster The posters should serve as a basis for discussion and are an addition to your presentations. The main focus of the posters should be on your results. Therefore the posters should include clear descriptions of your results (e.g. graphs, tables) as well as descriptions of important working tools e.g. schemes of experimental set-up, flow charts.
