The NHS Safety Thermometer10 Steps to Success Series! Step 8 Trouble Shooting, merging and submitting data
Data validation Check everything you expect to see is in the Safety Thermometer Organisations Wards Number of patients Use the Outcome Report tool to check
I’ve found errors…what can I do? Go back into the surveys and amend any incorrect details If you have found duplicate surveys, delete one (carefully!) If you think the data has been recorded incorrectly you may need to double check with the ward or patient notes Make a note if any additional training may be needed Application of definitions Using the Safety Thermometer tool Data entry
Everything’s OK, now what do I need to do next? How do I get one Safety Thermometer with all of my data?
Merging your Safety Thermometers All Safety Thermometers in one folder? Lets have a look at the merge in action!
Before you submit… • Ensure your validation is complete • Use the Outcome Report tool to check • Complete the merge • Calculate if you have surveyed all appropriate patients and list the reasons for any omissions (the CQUIN guidance can help you do this)
Submitting your data Use the ‘Data Export’ option via the ‘Administration’ menu
What if I only use a web-mail account? • If you don’t have a local e-mail package, such as Outlook, and only use a web-mail account, such as NHS.net • The Data Export file will be saved in the same folder the Safety Thermometer is in • It will be called ‘ST DataExport’ • E-mail this file to safetythermometer@ic.nhs.uk • Note that you will only be able to send one Data Export file at a time
How will I know the data is submitted? You will get an e-mail confirmation that your Data Export has been received Your Safety Thermometer data has been successfully submitted!!! Now what else should we do with the data?
