2011 Legislative Changes The following changes take effect for us beginning 1/1/11: • Children up to age 26 who do not have coverage through another employer can be covered under our plan. • The $1 million lifetime limit has been eliminated. • Over-the-counter drugs (except insulin) cannot be reimbursed under the Flexible Spending Accounts/ Health Savings Accounts without a prescription. • Penalty for using HSA money for non-medical expenses increased to 20%.
2011 Medical Plan Changes *These are in-network costs. Out-of-network has separate deductible and OOP max.
How the Plan Works - Deductibles Deductible – the amount you pay before the plan pays *In addition, you may be billed for amounts over “reasonable and customary”
How the Plan Works - Coinsurance Co-insurance: The percentage of the cost you pay after you meet your deductible
How the Plan Works - OOP Maximums Out of Pocket (OOP) Maximum: The dollar amount at which plan begins to pay 100%. *Excludes office visit co-pay, ER co-pay and prescription drug costs in the Market 500/Value 750; **You may be billed for costs over “reasonable and customary” when using out-of-network providers
Reminder on Cost of Care • Average cost per visit: • Emergency room - $550-750 • Regular doctor’s office - $110-150 • Urgent Care - $50-$100 • Nurse Line consult - $0 • A high percentage of our ER usage was considered unnecessary or avoidable. • Aetna’s Informed Health (Nurse) Line phone number will be on your medical cards in 2011 Aetna’s DocFind has a link for alternatives to the ER
Cost Sharing Comparison Based on Employee Only coverage Note: Excludes preventive care cost for all plans; excludes office visit and prescription drug co-pays for Market 500 and Value 750
Healthcare Philosophy • Plan design and cost should be at market median. • Employees and families who use healthcare more will pay more. • The Company will pay more for employees than for dependents.
