The History of world Stock Exchanges • The first exchange sites appeared in the 12-15 centuries as bill of exchange fairs in leading trading towns of that time – Venice, Genoa, Florence, Champagne, Bruges, London and others. • The name “Borsa” came from the name of the ancient merchant family Van der Burse, on whose emblem there were tree leather bags (ter buerse) and their house was built on a square in Bruges, where the bill of exchange trades took place.

At the end of the 17 century London Stock Exchange was set up. • There were firstly mentioned such words such words for traders as “bull” and “bear”. • The off-exchange market in Europe dates back from the first shareholdings developing in the 60-s of the 16 century, when in 1568 one of the first deals were registered. • In the 90-s of the 17 century this market started to trade not only shares, but their derived securities – futures and options. • Appeared new specialty of broker in securities.

  10. NYSE • The New York Stock Exchange began in 1792. • At this time there were only five securities traded in NYC, three of which were government bonds created to finance the Revolutionary War. The other two were bank stocks, with Bank of America as the first listed stock on the NYSE. • The name was changed to the New York Stock Exchange in 1863. • Today it is the largest stock exchange area in the world.

  13. Russian stock market is the most developing market. • In the 2005 year world indexes rose: • Russian RTS - 83% • Turkish – 59.3% • Korean – 54% • Japanese NIKKEI - 24% • American NASDAQ - slightly more than 1%
