  1. Responsibility Routine Results FUSD Elect to Learn (ETL) Program

  2. Purpose • To provide a system of accountability for our students to better prepare them for high school and life. • Decrease attendance and tardy issues. • Have students prepared and ready to learn each day. • Increase homework and student achievement rates.

  3. How ETL Works • Students need to be prepared for school and ready to learn each day. This includes being in dress code, wearing their lanyard, being on time, and having all homework and materials for each class. • Students who do not have one or more of these things will be stamped in their agenda and assigned to ETL from 2:30-4:00 pm each day. • Students must attend ETL unless they have an official note from a dentist/doctor. This needs to be cleared with the ETL 2 teacher. • If students have activities after-school, they will still need to attend ETL when assigned.

  4. How ETL Works--Continued • Students who do not attend ETL from 2:30-4:00 on their assigned day, will then be assigned to ETL 2 the following school day. • ETL 2 will run from 7:45 am to 4:00 pm the next day. Parents will be contacted and students will work on AIMS prep and homework from their classes.

  5. The Student’s Responsibility • Show up on time for class each period. • Have an agenda in each class. • Be prepared with all required supplies (pencils, paper, books, PE uniform). • Be prepared with completed homework. • Wear appropriate colored lanyard around his/her neck for each class period. • Be in uniform code-of dress each day. • Attend ETL when assigned and notify his/her parents.

  6. The Parent’s Responsibility • Make sure your son/daughter gets to school on time each day. • Help your child to ensure that homework is completed each night. • Make sure your child has an agenda, lanyard, and that they are in dress-code each day. • Understand that when assigned ETL, students must attend unless they have an official note from a dentist/doctor. • Support the school and the ETL program!

  7. Homework Tips for Families • Create a place where your child can complete his/her homework each night. • Establish a routine and time for your child to work on homework each night. • Turn off/remove all distractions during “homework time”: cell-phones, radio, television, and computer programs not used for assignments. • Organize backpacks and place homework in folder and then backpack before going to bed each night.

  8. Additional Tips for Families • Help your student place lanyard in backpack right after-school. • Have a special spot in your home for backpacks and school materials. • Check your son’s/daughter’s agenda each night. • Provide extra time each morning to get to school.

  9. Dress Code Reminders • SHIRTS: No words, stripes, patterns, and logos that are not from an FUSD school. Appropriate Colors: White, Blue, Grey, Red, Green and Black. Layers must be in dress-code colors. Shirts must be modest. • PANTS: Solid in color, no tears or holes, no designs or flashy logos. Past the fingertips in length. Appropriate Colors: Black, Denim/Blue, Khaki • SWEATSHIRTS/COATS: follow the same rules as shirts. Sweatshirts and coats that do not follow the uniform code of dress can be placed in the locker before school and then picked up after school. Coats and sweatshirts worn during the day that are out of dress-code will be taken for the day.

  10. The Teacher’s Responsibility • Provide a safe and organized environment where each student can be successful. • Be fair, firm, and consistent with every student. • Establish an ETL routine and system in your class that occurs the first few minutes of each class period. • Maintain consistent standards so students know what to expect each class period. • Follow the ETL protocol: mark spreadsheet and escort students to ETL. • Submit homework and materials to the ETL 2 teacher each day before the end of 3rd period.

  11. The Teacher’s ETL Checklist • Check for tardies, dress code, lanyard, agenda, homework, and supplies at the beginning of each class. • Stamp the student’s agenda/hand if they are not prepared for the class period. (Teachers, not students, must stamp each day.) • Record on the master ETL spreadsheet who will be attending ETL after-school and the reason why. • If possible, allow students staying for ETL to contact home during a non-lecture activity. • Send homework and materials for ETL 2 students before the end of 3rd period.

  12. ETL Spreadsheet • D =Dress code • L=Lanyard • T=Tardy • H=Homework • A=Agenda • S=Supplies Mark your initials and then the reason in the class period box. Example: JB-H or TP=T

  13. End of Day --Teacher ETL Responsibilities • Make sure you have recorded all students assigned to ETL by 1:50 pm. • Check spreadsheet for students who need to attend ETL . A condensed version will be IM’d to teachers by 2:15 each day. • Notify students who need to attend ETL and then ESCORT them to ETL (mini-auditoriums) at 2:27 each day.

  14. ETL 2 Reminders for Teachers • Check ETL 2 list in your E-mail and send your first hour students to the ETL 2 room by 7:45. • Send homework for each of your students in ETL 2 for the day by the end of 3rd period. Please send sufficient work and any make-up work for them to complete.

  15. ETL from 2:30-4:00 pm • Students need to sign-in and must be there before 2:35 to be admitted to ETL. • Students are to work on homework or read. • Students are not allowed to communicate with one another. No talking or making noises. • No sleeping or heads down. • One person may use the restroom/hall pass at a time and these students need to sign-out when leaving. • No cell-phones, MP3 players, headphones permitted. These will be confiscated and must be picked up by a parent in the front office. • Students who are disruptive or who do not follow the ETL rules, will be sent to the office and will be given ETL 2 the following day. • ETL attendance will be recorded and submitted to the ETL 2 teacher by 2:55 each day.

  16. Additional ETL Reminders • Students can only make-up ETL if they have an official dentist/doctor note. • Students who are not recorded on the spreadsheet by 1:50, will not be held responsible for ETL. • Please be fair, firm, and consistent with the ETL program. • Clearly communicate with students when and why they are assigned to ETL. • Students who do not attend ETL to attend a school-sponsored activity will miss the following game/event.
