  1. Prayer for the Sick Father of goodness and love, hear our prayers for the sick members of our community and for all who are in need. Amid mental and physical suffering may they find consolation in your healing presence. Show your mercy as you close wounds, cure illness, make broken bodies whole and free downcast spirits. May these special people find lasting health and deliverance, and so join us in thanking you for all your gifts. We ask this through the Lord Jesus who healed those who believed. Amen

  2. To explain God shows His power in the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick To describe the Sacrament To evaluate which part of the Sacrament is the most effective The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick Do you know anyone who is a “bad patient” ?

  3. This woman is physically ill, but she is also thinking in a way that isn’t good. Why not? God shows His healing love and power through the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. 1. Draw the woman, and speech bubble to change what she would be thinking, if God healed her in her spirit. **How important is it to be healed in your attitude and spirit, compared to being healed just in your body? God hates me. That is why I am ill. I don’t believe in a good God anymore. I can’t put up with this pain, day in, day out ! I am angry at everyone around me! I’ll never get better. I’ll never enjoy doing anything again. I hate myself. My life has no point now. Other people just have to look after me. I am afraid. What if this illness leads to death? I am afraid of death.

  4. Write “The 3 parts of the Sacrament are...” and say what they are . Explain how the 3 parts of the Sacrament could help the woman: The viaticum could… The Sacrament of Reconciliation could… The Anointing with oil could… **Which part of the Sacrament would give you the most comfort? The priest gives them the Sacrament of Reconciliation, so they can be at peace with themselves, others and God The priest anointstheir head and other parts of the body with holy oil, for strength and healing The Viaticum: (means “food for the journey”). It is receiving the Eucharist, which will give her Jesus’ body and blood, to help her face what lies ahead, even death.

  5. Did Jesus ever do a “Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick”? Healing the blind man: Jesus put mud paste on his eyes for healing Healing the paralysed man: “Get up, your sins are forgiven” Explain if you think that Jesus did the first “Sacrament of the Sick” or if it is something the Catholic Church made up. **Are the differences important?

  6. Explain 2 ways the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is similar to the way Jesus healed. Explain one difference. **Do you think that overall, the Sacrament is based on how Jesus healed or not? Watch the clips of Jesus healing Is what Jesus did, at all similar to what a priest does, in the Sacrament of the Sick ?

  7. Do a role play of a priest anointing someone with the Sacrament of the Sick. Include all 3 parts! 1. Do the Sac. Of Reconciliation with them (the confession/ absolution stages) PATIENT “The last time I was at confession was...Since then I have sinned against God in the following ways...” PRIEST“I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.” 2. Anoint them with holy oils for strength & healing – ask the patient which part of her body she wants anointed. Say what it will do for her. 3. Give them the Viaticum “The body of Christ; the blood of Christ”.
